I'm not sure I get this either. I thought a precipitate was what is left behind if a solution hits saturation point.
Well, a solution is the combination of subtances (usually a solid into a liquid) into a homogeneous mixture. A precipitate is a solid generated out of a solution via chemical reaction. Shorthand: solution—combine; precipitation—separate out.
